New Rights for Tenants

RIGHT TO COMPENSATION FOR IMPROVEMENTS

The Scottish Executive has recently published its guidance on the new Tenants Right to Compensation for Improvements. The purpose of this scheme is to compensate tenants when they leave their homes, for any good quality improvements they have carried out, with their landlords written permission, during their tenancy.

Compensation is limited to certain types of improvements carried out since 30th September 2002. A condition is that written permission has been given by the Association.

RIGHT TO REPAIR
The Scottish Executive has also recently published its guidance on the new Tenants Right to Repair. The purpose of this scheme is to give tenants a right to ask contractors to carry out certain types of repair if PHA has failed to carry out the repair within specified timescales. The scheme also gives tenants a right to receive compensation for the inconvenience involved in having to make these arrangements.

Tenants can only instruct work under the Right to Repair where the Association has provided a receipt indicating that we are responsible for the repair, and the repair qualifies under this scheme.

We would like to assure tenants however, that our normal repairs service is unaffected by this new right. We will still continue to provide our usual repairs service and would be happy to deal with any requests or enquiries. Remember - you can now report a repair on-line.
