The Association proposes to increase its rents for the coming year by an average of 2%.
The increase is proposed following the carrying out of its annual budget setting exercise.
The Association's Director of Housing Services, Garry Savage explained, "Each year we look at all our costs as an organisation. The main way we meet these costs is by using the rent we receive from tenants. As a result we need to make sure rents are set at an appropriate level.”
He continued, “Our priority is to keep rents affordable, and in line with those charged by other housing associations. We always try to keep any annual increase to a minimum and this year are pleased that we've managed to keep it to a lower than inflation level. In real terms it means £1.06 being added to our average rent, resulting in an increase from £52.98 to £54.04.”
“We are keen to take account of the views of tenants in setting our rent levels. In the near future we’ll be delivering an information leaflet to all tenants. This will provide more information on our proposals and ask anyone with any comments or suggestions to get in touch with us. We will also be discussing the proposals in detail at the next meeting of the Residents Panel. As always there is an open invitation for any resident to attend this meeting. If you do intend coming along, it would be helpful if you would contact us in advance to let us know so we can organise appropriate facilities.”
“We’ll take account of all feedback we receive in finalising the proposals and will have this done by late February. At that time we’ll present details to the Association's Management Board. If approved, the increase would take effect from 5th April.”
