Digital TV Switchover

We’ve received a number of calls recently about Digital television switchover.

Most people who have called have heard that it is due to happen in the Perth area this year and are unsure as to how it affects them.

While we are not best placed to answer technical questions that people may have about digital TV and the switchover, we can suggest where to get further information.

We would initially recommend that anyone who needs advice on what the digital switchover means, and what they need to do to continue receiving TV signals, should visit the official government website www.digitaluk.co.uk
or call the dedicated helpline: 08456 505050.

The information we have however is that the ‘switchover’ in the Perth area will happen in August this year. At that time everyone will need a TV and or equipment that can receive digital TV. We understand that the switchover will happen in two stages, with BBC2 switching over on 4th August followed by all other analogue channels on 18th of the month.

We are also aware that the Government operates a Switchover Help Scheme and through this a number of our tenants may qualify for help in converting their TV to receive the new digital signal. In particular we understand those who are likely to be eligible for free assistance will be over the age of 75, receiving certain disability benefits or registered blind or partially sighted.

If you are eligible you may have received some information about the Scheme through the post already. For details of the help that is available and to find out if you qualify you can telephone the Scheme helpline: 08004085908.
